• Aussies excel on the wine front after Ashes foray!

    To celebrate Australia Day yesterday I rummaged through the rack and found a bottle of Wise Wine’s Sea Urchin Shiraz 2008 DELICIOUS! Pity I couldn’t say the same about my dry bit of crusty pizza (which no amount of extras from the cupboard could improve). Notes of violet, blackcurrent and hints of peppery spice came through, but most of all it was refreshing that this wine tasted pure. No hint of too much human interference just the grapes doing their bit in the bottle. Why can’t more Aussie wines be like this.

    Wines to drink while sitting under an Ash Cloud Some sparkles to cheer you up Personally I’ll be sipping Lanson Vintage 98. 5* in Decanter. A wine with some smoky undertones Altair one of Chile’s top wines, with hints of cedar, soke and spice would do nicely here. A quaffer (we want to save some money for when the AC moves and we can fly on our hols) with a link to global disturbances Ca’di Ponti Sicilian range, fertilised with the ash of Mount Etna! And finally we can but dream… a wine to help us fly with our own
