South Africa 2011 Part 1: Saxenburg

Last week Anthony Tindal headed off in pursuit of the Swallows to warmer climes. He left behind last years vintage in the cold steel walls of the bond and went to expand our South African Portfolio and blend this years vintage of Swallows Tale, Tindal Wine Merchants’ fist ever own label wine. Before he left he gave us a quick introduction to his tour (until the battery failed!!).

Armed with a filming device (purchased in the airport en route) Anthony has brought us back some shakily filmed tastings, vineyard visits and general interesting info on the riches that South Africa has. Click on each link and you’ll be directed to our exclusive Tindal Wines YouTube extravaganza of video blogs!

Wednesday 2nd February

The big man arrived in Capetown that afternoon. Having been confined to a cabin for the last 11 hours he headed straight off to see his old friends at Saxenburg Wines in Stellenbosch where he was met by the owner and his son: Adrian and Vincent Buhrer. They tasted some wines (very good ones at that!) and agreed to reconvene on Thursday morning for some intensive vineyard visits and Lunch!

The wines were tasted on video:

Guinea Fowl Red ’09 & Pinotage. They also discussed the significance of the 3 Guinea Fowl on the label.
